Lab 11
For this week’s lab, you will create a plan for enhancing your geospatial knowledge. You can complete 1-2 of the tasks noted below or propose a different task to be approved by the instructor. There will be considerable flexibility in what you work on, but these tasks cannot be related to other courses (or part of a paid job you currently have). Your grade each day will be based on participation in class (50%; leaving early or not showing up will result in a reduced grade) and evidence of progress (50%).
In the Canvas dropbox, you will submit two documents each day: 1. A description of the task(s) you are pursuing (submitted at the beginning of the class period). 2. Evidence of progress for that day.
Tasks
- Learn more Python through DataCamp tutorials and create a report (using Jupyter notebooks or a similar platform) on a Python-related problem
- Use R to address some of the lab content we tackled with Python
- Learn a new programming language through DataCamp (e.g., SQL or JavaScript)
- Extend a research project that you are working on with a faculty member by mapping results, enhancing its spatial analysis, or apply other spatial techniques
- Embark on an AI-driven task such as
- Experimentation with agentic coding
- Optimizing the content from labs 9 and 10 using LLMs
- Use LLMs and python to complete labs 2 and 5
- Prepare a cover letter and a resume for several prospective jobs
- Create a Python toolbox in ArcGIS Pro
- Complete a series of Learn ArcGIS tutorials and apply that content to a new problem (e.g., learn how to deliver feature services, advanced editing and topology, etc.)
- Learn how to “touch type” or begin courses that teach touch typing and make considerable progress this week.
- Other task as approved by instructor
